Politics / Social Issues
Caitlyn Jenner is dominating the headlines since revealing her striking change from Bruce Jenner – to the woman gracing the cover of Vanity Fair – Caitlyn Jenner. However, my question is are Caitlyn Jenner’s politics the same as Bruce Jenner’s politics?
While no one, with any sort of heart, can deny that Bruce Jenner expressed a fair amount of courage to nationally reveal his desire to be a woman, and then share with the nation his transition to the woman known as Caitlyn Jenner, it isn’t the only massive change for the potential $500 million woman.
During his time as a reality TV celebrity Bruce Jenner rarely spoke of his religious or political beliefs. He rarely shared his Christian religion or his republican politics with viewers. In fact he rarely took any sort of stand on any “issue” – which isn’t a bad thing, he always seemed very focused on his family during the show.
What makes his transformation to Caitlyn intriguing to me is that this was a very out of character move to invite people into such an intimate aspect of his life. Now that Caitlyn is here and she seems to finally be 100% comfortable in her own skin; I wonder if she will have the desire to continue letting people into the intimate aspects of her life and be more open about her religious and political views.
If she does, I can’t help but ask the question; will Caitlyn Jenner’s politics be the same Republican politics of Bruce Jenner?
If you weren’t aware, Bruce Jenner was a Christian and a conservative. He never really spoke about it in depth on his TV show and there aren’t any records I know of showing campaign contributions. However, the response to his transformation to Caitlyn has been met with mixed responses from conservatives. Will that sway her to shift away from Bruce’s politics?
Many republicans have come out in strong support of Caitlyn; almost every liberal talking head can’t stop showering her with praise. Will that force a political shift for Caitlyn? A spokesman for Caitlyn declined to respond to questions regarding Caitlyn’s desire or plans to get involved in the 2016 elections or to endorse a specific candidate.
Now seems like the perfect time for a Republican candidate to come out and publicly support Caitlyn. However, not one Presidential candidate for the Republican Party has come out to congratulate or support Caitlyn Jenner.
I doubt that happens since I don’t think any Republican Presidential hopeful has the guts to go against the nutty Tea Party base. However, I can’t think of a better opportunity for the party branded as “intolerant” to really shed that label and ensure that actual politics, not social issues, dominate the 2016 elections.
